Our versatile one-of-a-kind tote bags are made from antique homespun, handwoven hemp and linen textiles from Eastern and Central Europe. Each tote's previous life may have been as a grainsack, sheet, tablecloth, or preserved yardage. The totes, including the hemp straps sourced in Romania, are organic, durable, and machine-washable, and are made in our studio in Asbury Park, NJ.
This large tote is made from a mid-20th century Hungarian grainsack with a strong and sturdy twill weave, wheat tone, and thick red and black stripes.
